Westfield Doctor DeFelice Writes New Book on Heart Disease

Reprinted from The Westfield Leader, Nov. 18, 1999

WESTFIELD – “The Carnitine Defense: A Natural Nutraceutical “Formula to Prevent and Treat Heart Disease” is the latest book to be written by Dr. Stephen L. DeFelice, a Westfield resident for over 30 years.

“I wrote this book because of the enormous medical promise of nutraceuticals for the heart and the current confusion regarding why and what to take,” stated Dr. DeFelice.

The book offers an analysis of published clinical studies conducted by medical experts and recommends a natural Cardiac Elixir to aid in the prevention and treatment of heart disease.

According to Dr. DeFelice, carnitine is the cornerstone to the seven nutraceuticals recommended and supported by extensive clinical research.

Dr. DeFelice formed The Foundation for Innovation in Medicine in 1976 and coined the phrase “nutraceutical” in 1989 to define foods and dietary supplements with disease-fighting properties.

Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. introduced The Nutraceutical Research and Education Act (NREA) to Congress on October1 after collaborating with Dr. DeFelice to propose legislation to encourage
companies to perform clinical research on nutraceuticals.

Dr. DeFelice will discuss and sign copies of “The Carnitine Defense” at The Town Book Store in Westfield on Saturday, November 2O, from 3 to 5 p.m.
